Poetic Exploration of the Heart

180 Degrees of Personal Transformation

Lady Luck may like some more than others, and obviously one can’t be held responsible for one’s good fortune or the lack of it. However, those who are miserable are all, every single one of them, responsible for their own misery.

After having voluntarily drowned oneself in self-pity and spiritual stagnation, there comes a time when one is cornered into accepting the unacceptable, consenting to unthinkable, and complying with – seemingly inadmissible but evidently present – reality.

It doesn’t happen overnight. You push it out of your mind, out of your sight, out of your heart, you push it as far away as you can and you focus on other things, you take what comes day by day, not thinking about the implications of your unacceptable situation.

It doesn’t happen overnight. But eventually it happens. You begin to see yourself in a new light, to appreciate yourself more. Your values shift. And once that happens, there is no going back.

You wake up one morning and you think of that sad little person you used to be. You consider the factors, the circumstances, and the dynamics of the situation that made you feel that way. You’d like to forgive everyone, yourself included, but you don’t know how. Forgiveness was never one of your strengths. Instead, you do what you’ve done so many times before. You push another dream into the abyss of oblivion, you censor your mind and erase any trace of emotional debris from your heart. The soul must be free to regenerate.

Sometimes the things we can’t change end up changing us.
